2017 Jim Vlock First Year Building Project
As a Field Crew Manager for the 2017 Jim Vlock First Year Building Project, I had the good fortune of working on the project from design initiation through construction. This 1,000-square-foot building was the first of a 5 year partnership with Columbus House, a local nonprofit committed to ending homelessness in New Haven. Students participated in the prefabrication of building components off-site, followed with the foundation pour, and building assembly on-site. This dual unit home features distinct dwellings for a previously homeless individual and family. The nesting units envelop a breezeway that functions as a shared entry space for the residents.
